The past few months I’ve spent a good amount of time looking for a summer job… because that’s how a teacher who still has student loans rolls. The funding was lost for our summer school program so I applied for about 15 positions and waited for the phone calls. Everybody Nobody ever called. Not one. Zero. None. ZILCH!
One of my best friends for months has been saying “Sam, I think maybe you aren’t supposed to get a job this summer,” and each time I nodded my head and continued perusing, searching and applying.
THEN three weeks ago, I was cooking chicken (like you do) when:
KABLAMMY!
In 94 size font in my brain there it was.
“Holy Crap! I think I am supposed to launch Recklessly Alive Ministries.”
I practically had to sit down I was so blown away. . What does that even mean?
So for the past month I have been listening, dreaming, researching and preparing for whatever this crazy thing God is calling me to and truthfully I don’t know much yet. All I know is that suicide rates are at a 30 year high. Someone ends their own life every 12.8 minutes and I am supposed to do everything I can to help. Enter:
All I know so far is that my ministry will be primarily focused on Suicide Prevention including some awesome combination of:
Encouragement for people who are struggling
Resources including Warning Signs & Ways to Help
Bible Studies and Curriculum

So this summer I will be DJing a few weddings (which I mostly like), taking some trips, hanging with my 16 month old nephew and, yes God, I will be launching Recklessly Alive Ministries.

I am going to need a lot of help and support but I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey. Stuck in my head worse than “Call Me Maybe” is this incredible verse:

I will do everything I can to let the world know there is always hope. Life can and will get better.
